What We are Working On!
At Fort Seward, we always have projects and plans under way! From reenacting and sharing our history to working on fun activities to share with the community we serve!
Tent City is an authentic recreation of what the earliest time at Fort Seward would have been like. Before buildings were constructed, the army had tents that would have cover all of the most important functions. We have a tents for school, officers, scouts, the hospital and much more! Wood wasn't abundant in the Dakota Territory, so buildings would be transported from decommissioned forts to newly commissioned forts!
Big Guns of the Old West
During Buffalo Days in Jamestown, we host our Big Guns of the Old West event. This event covers life on the frontier with reenactors demonstrating many key activities for the time. We have cannon and gatling gun demonstrations, pie cooked in the Dutch ovens, a history of the Springfield rifle and more!
2022 marks 150 years since Fort Seward was first commissioned by the U.S. Military. We plan to celebrate 150 years with exhibitions of military through the ages, culture and heritage of the people of the plains and reenactments.
Fort Seward Reconstruction hopes to build historically accurate buildings to represent what life was like at Fort Seward.
